Boiler Maintenance Tips for Homeowners
Simple habits between annual service visits that keep a hydronic system running well.
Get to know your boiler's normal pressure reading and check it occasionally. Pressure that drops repeatedly is telling you something is happening in the system, and catching it early keeps it small.
Notice cold zones. A radiator or loop that never warms while others do usually points to air in the system, a circulation issue or a zone control problem rather than the boiler itself.
Keep the area around the boiler clear and dry, and do not store items against the unit or block the combustion air path. Report any new knocking, gurgling or persistent noise rather than living with it.
Then book the annual inspection. Combustion and safety checks, cleaning and control verification are the parts of boiler care that need a technician, and they are what keep the system reliable through the winter.
